Indian wrestler banned for life for hitting referee

An Indian wrestler has been banned for life by the National Wrestling Federation for punching the referee after his defeat on Tuesday (May 17th) in New Delhi.

Satender Malik, wrestler in the over 125 kg category, was playing a qualifying bout on Tuesday, May 17, for the next Commonwealth Games scheduled for this summer in Birmingham (United Kingdom), when the referee awarded the victory to his opponent.

Sweaty and in a fit of anger, the loser ran across the mat cursing the referee, Jagbir Singh, before punching him in the face.

Another wrestler, Vishal Kalliraman, furious at his defeat, punched him against the wall of the hall where the police had to intervene due to scuffles in the public.

While heat waves are common in India in May and June, summer was particularly early this year, with the hottest March on record since records began.
