Diplomacy. In India, the visit of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov makes waves

The head of Russian diplomacy is in New Delhi for a two-day visit. Western pressure on India is increasing, but the South Asian giant maintains a neutral position in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

It is a visit that is not to everyone's taste. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived in India on Thursday March 31 for a two-day trip. His visit coincides with the presence in New Delhi of Daleep Singh, Joe Biden 's deputy national security adviser on economic issues , and that of Liz Truss, the head of British diplomacy.

Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar met with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, on Friday April 1 ,  against a backdrop of intense international pressure, particularly over the import of Russian oil, New Delhi Television points out .

The United States having “warned of the consequences for countries trying to circumvent American sanctions against Moscow”. The talks came as India could buy more Russian oil at a discount through a rouble-rupee swap mechanism under consideration that would circumvent Western sanctions.
