Mexico: second journalist murdered in a week in Tijuana

Shot dead in a vehicle on Sunday, Lourdes Maldonado Lopez is the second journalist murdered in a week in Tijuana, a city in northwestern Mexico on the United States border. 

A  Mexican journalist was "murdered " on Sunday, January 23, in the city of Tijuana, in the northwest of the country, the regional prosecutor's office said, a few days after the murder of another media professional in the same city.      

Lourdes Maldonado Lopez was killed by a "firearm while she was in a vehicle," said the Baja California state prosecutor's office. She "worked as a journalist", added the prosecution, announcing the opening of an investigation. Another journalist, a photojournalist, was killed last Monday in Tijuana. 

The murdered journalist had worked as a correspondent for a Mexican media in Tijuana in the 1990s. She later worked for several media, including Primer Sistema de Noticias (PSN) of Jaime Bonilla, who served as governor of the state of Lower California from 2019 to the end of 2021, within a coalition integrating the presidential party Morena.
